‘E.T. Call Home.’ I Relate!
I wish that… my family was always just around the corner.
This winning “Wish of the Week” was submitted by Nidhi Singh. Nidhi told us that living closer to her family would help her feel more confident in general and, at times, less lonely.
Today, we live in a society where it has become normal, to almost expected, that we will all “move away.” Increasingly more and more aspiring college students go abroad to pursue their studies, leaving their friends and families “behind.” For some of us, new employment or a job promotion comes paired with the requirement to move across the country, or even across the globe. On the positive side, moving far from home is often viewed as a mark of one’s maturity, a positive affirmation of one’s individuality and way for one to truly find him/herself. While this may well be true, can any of us deny that, once in a while, we would love to be able to run home for a good home-cooked meal? Haven’t we all wished that our friends and families were closer so that they could lend us an extra pair of hands when things got particularly frantic?
Oh well, at least we have Skype!
