KFC To Stop Diabetes By Selling You Sugary Soda

So, KFC is trying to do a good deed.  I recognize that, and I applaud them for their efforts.  We really do need more companies in the world go out on a limb and direct a smidgen of their revenue towards worthy causes.  HOWEVER, I can’t help but feel that there’s something really ass-backwards about KFC encouraging customers to buy a HALF-GALLON of soda — which has  800 calories from 56 spoonfuls of sugar — for $2.99 and and promising to give a $1 of the proceeds to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. As Huffington Post blogger Jo Waters said,

I just can’t understand what Kentucky Fried Chicken is thinking with its latest cause marketing program….I don’t have a problem with nonprofits and fast-serve chains doing cause marketing. What I do have a problem with is when fast serve chains like KFC encourage consumers to buy products that directly contribute to the health conditions – in this case diabetes – they are supposedly trying to prevent by partnering with the cause in the first place. It’s like if Philip Morris partnered with Smokey the Bear and donated a portion of all cigarette sales to conservation groups working to stop wildfires — fires that are often started by careless smokers!” [Huffington Post]

I have to agree that KFC’s campaign is not all that it’s clucked up to be.

This is really sad… but anyone trying to avoid diabetes and be health conscious should stay away from KFC altogether!! Just make a direct donation yourself. :)

Yeah, we’re pretty sure fried chicken, KFC-style that is, is not on the list of “approved” foods for those battling with diabetes. As a matter of fact, we’re pretty sure it’s not on any “approved” foods list for those of us who are trying to avoid dying prematurely.
